Missed The Show, Let's Start a War

Last Saturday in Barcelona, The National gave their fans a concert on Iberian lands. Me, my friend, and my other friend intended to go, but since it's a bit far from here to Barcelona, it got too expensive and busy at this time. And Barcelona is actually the nearest city on The National's tour dates for us... But we'll see if we go crazy enough to join the band in one of the other European cities... (Australia anyone?)

Setlist was as it follows :
Start a war

Mistaken for strangers

Secret meeting

Brainy

Baby, we'll be fine

Slow show

Squalor victoria

Abel

Lucky You!

All the wine

Racing like a pro

Ada

Looking for astronauts

Apartment story

Daughters of soho riots

Fake empire

Green gloves

How Things Were On The West Coast

Last Wednesday, Indie-rock band Interpol, performed in Lisbon at the Coliseu dos Recreios. They say it was great. I don't know, because I didn't went there, although I wish I could.

They performed the following tracks :

Pioneer To The Falls
Say Hello To The Angels
Narc
Obstacle 1
Scale
Mammoth
No I Threesome
Slow Hands
Rest My Chemistry
The Lighthouse
Evil
C'mere
The Heinrich Maneuver
Not Even Jail
Take You On a Cruise
Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down
PDA

Yeah it was good, and I wanted to go... You should listen to their most recent album, Our Love To Admire, although you must already know its first single, The Heinrich Maneuver...

And I dare you to listen to their new single, No I In Threesome...

Deal Or No Deal

Before I start posting the new Indie posts, let's look back in Pop and say what's good and what's not on today's market, shall we?

- TIMBALAND Presents ONE REPUBLIC
"APOLOGIZE" : It's not that bad. Actually a lot better than previous Timbaland singles on the radio. Much thanks to OneRepublic's original version of the song. [4/5]

- MARK RONSON Featuring AMY WINEHOUSE
"VALERIE" : This is a very good Big Band version of The Zutons' "Valerie", and Miss Winehouse sounds great here too. [5/5]

- SUGABABES
"ABOUT YOU NOW" : If anyone asked for a good pure pop song, this is it. The Sugababes's new single teaches everyone else how to properly use synths. [5/5]

- BRITNEY SPEARS
"GIMME MORE" : I don't think I need to comment on this one. Miss Spears/Ex-Federline tries too hard to make a comeback. It's a bit unlistenable... Though the synths makes up for it. [1/5]

- AKON
"SORRY BLAME IT ON ME" : Now this is just horrible. [0/5]

- CRAIG DAVID
"HOT STUFF (LET'S DANCE)" : Remember "WALKING AWAY"? You can forget it. Craig David returns with a new song based around David Bowie's "LET'S DANCE". David kinda messes it up, but the sampling is nice... [3/5]

- PLAIN WHITE T'S
"HEY THERE DELILAH" : Nice calm pop / piano rock ballad. Super simple. [5/5]

And I could comment on a lot more tracks. But I don't feel like it. This makes the 'period' on the Pop posts. Pretty soon you'll be able to check who's things are on the Indie side of life...

[P.S.: The ratings of the songs have been made on a Pop basis. If I rated them on an Indie basis, the ratings would be quite low...]

New Direction

The new posts won't start quite yet, I just wanted to inform that "Give Your Ears a Taste Of Visual" will slightly change its posting-subject. Up until now, we usually informed you about what was up on the music business. Mainly mainstream pop, that is. We'll restart now posting about Indie Rock, New Rave, Alternative Music... You'll get the deal. Also, this blog will be a bit more personal, intimate, to follow its new Indie vibe.

Sincerely Yours,
The Management

Louise - "Pandora's Kiss" (Goldtrix Remix)

I was chatting on MSN Messenger today with a friend of mine, when we started to talk about girlbands (of course we did!). Eventually Eternal come up and I remembered this awesome remix of a track by former member Louise Nurding/Redknapp (choose the surname you like the most, though Louise likes to be called by her first name only.). As my friend told me later, this remix is discotastic!!! Then, as usual when I got so excited about a song, I knew I had to post it here. For those of you who don't know and didn't got it, Louise used to be a member of British 90's sensation girlband Eternal. She left the group in 1995 in a similar way Geri Halliwell left the Spice Girls and on the same day Robbie Williams left Take That. She would then release several solo albums, the latest (yet to be released) including Pandora's Kiss. This would be the only song to be released from this album, on an A-Side single with Don't Give Up. The single featured this Remix I'm giving you today. A DVD Single was also released. The video for the song is quite literal, except for the Kiss/Box part. Below you can watch it, and hear the original version of the song.

Louise - Pandora's Kiss
Now don't forget, we like to support the artists, so you can buy this at HMV right now.

Also click here for Lyrics.

And the give-away part comes now click here and you'll be redirected to a page on which you can listen and download the remix I'm talking about. Download it, it fucking worth it!

The Platinum Chart [Week 302]

Alright, this week there's a lot of changes on the chart. Apart from three new entries by Joss Stone, Take That and Scissor Sisters, Fergie slips deliciously, Gwen Stefani winds it down, Shakira was illegally at the top so she now moved to the bottom, and Christina Aguilera also gets hurt on this free fall festival. Good things also happened though, Sophie Ellis-Bextor catches the top 20, Robbie Williams plays Madonna and moves eleven positions up, Justin Timberlake goes around the top 10, Ruby goes straight to the top 10, followed by Nelly Furtado and Amy Winehouse. On the battle for the top spot, Grace Kelly lost against The Sweet Escape which gave Gwen Stefani her fourth solo number one. On the Bubbling Under Chart, Jessica Simpson manages to spend one more week on the chart, The Pussycat Dolls keep climbing, and Cascada still holds the number one for the ninth week in a row... That's it for this week, enjoy!

Helena Paparizou - "The Game Of Love"

I was about to leave my computer to rest a bit, but then I came across former Eurovision Song Contest's winner Helena Paparizou's european website, and like any other music website nowadays, it instantly plays a preview of the artists' current album. Track number three, The Game Of Love just got me hooked up here. It is absolutely AMAZING!!! This is even better than all of those great Eurovision songs combined! It's poptastic 110%! I think this is a great summer anthem, like Helena knows how to do, back in 2006 she had a summer hit with Mambo! and in 2005 with the ESC-winning My Number One). Now this brand new track isn't yet regarded as an official single for her album, but I will haunt her down if she doesn't release this one! It's like an A-class greek summer version of Sophie Ellis-Bextor's Catch You... And the lyrics are quite good too!
"Swim the seven seas
I would climb the Himalayas
Sing in Japanese
I would dress up as your geisha
Capture all the stars
Paint your portrait
On the Great Sphinx
Walk to Africa
If I knew you 'd be there waiting"
See what I mean? Poptastic! Now I'll let you listen to it. Oh, as it is not a single, it obviously doesn't have a video. This fan was kind enough to make one herself, but it features the Greeklish version of the track.

What an amazing video this song will have... In the meantime I'll keep you posted if this incredible piece of pop will be released or not... And you can buy her album too you know. Simply click here. There's no shame shame shame...

New Mediocre Videos...

Just because I don't feel like writing an essay on each one of them. And also because I'm quite pissed of with the music industry. You get weeks with no premieres at all, and then in a single day there's a whole bunch of crappy videos to talk about... So here it goes...

Amy Winehouse - Back To Black

Ok, this one might diserve an essay of her own, but I think I'm kinda disappointed with this one. Where's all the glamour? Quoting Popjustice, it seems she is burrying a tortoise...

Arctic Monkeys - Brainstorm

I haven't seen it yet. I'll leave it up to you.

Ne-Yo - Because Of You

Ugh. Awful. The man just don't know what to quite does he?

Nikka Costa - "Like a Feather"

You may remember this singer from some awards shows back in 2001. Maybe not. You may remember this song as a hit in 2001. Then again... Let me remember you then... Nikka Costa, is a soul/jazz/alternative pop/rock singer who is actually related to Frank Sinatra (he was her godfather). She exploded into the mainstream music scene with her first and only hit single Like a Feather. It got everybody turning heads because of the song's catchy melody, her voice (people say "she doesn't sing like a white chick") and the video. So, if you are a music lover, you must know this one...
In other unrelated news, I'm giving away this type of posts to another blog. Hence, this is the last post of it's kind I'll post here. To read more of this ones you can check The Hotstuff Files. Every Wednesday you can find a new article by yours truly. ;)

Sha - "Vergiss Mich"

Fortunately the world is filled with non-American and non-British songs. There's also poptastic tunes in strange languages that don't take part of the Eurovision Song Contest you know... This one is one of them. After debuting with a German cover version of Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby, then renamed JaJa, German singer Sha returns to the music scene with her follow up Vergiss Mich (meaning Forget Me). The song is a five star piece of Pop, and features synthesizers, and a fantastic rhyme that goes "Also vergiss mich (...) Baby verpiss dich", which means "So forget me (...) Baby piss off". And she also sings a lot her own name. In the beginning of her two songs she whispers "Sha" a lot. The video for this one is just great. There's Sha, break dancing, Sha, and Sha's big radio. So, don't worry about the language, this song is understandable wherever...

Da1000 - "Tell No Other Man" (Christina Aguilera vs. Supermode)

I've just released my second single from my first mash-up album Future Sound Booster. Following The Pussycat Dolls vs. Pakito comes Christina Aguilera's hit single Ain't No Other Man with Supermode's Tell Me Why. This is actually my cover version of the same mash-up by DJ Drop Bass named Tell Me Why There's No Other Man. Basically I took is idea and made my own version reworking the songs in a different way. So I guess this is calling covering... The video was quite easy to handle, and I think the final product looks just fine. There's more videos coming up, and you can look for new tracks from my album being leaked here.

Rihanna - "Break It Off" (Ft. Sean Paul) / "Winning Women" (with Nicole Scherzinger) [Official Video]

Barbados' princess Rihanna has been quite busy these days. In case you didn't noticed she has been in the music news quite regularly. This is because she was about to release her fourth single from her A Girl Like Me album... Break It Off has been moved from release from last November to this March. The song was finally released some time ago on the U.S., but over iTunes. That means no physical release. That means it's not a proper single. Maybe because after announcing that a music video for the song was about to premiere on MTV's TRL, a new announcement was made stating that there will be no video for the song. Never. Ever. It's actually their loss. Break It Off could simply be that spring break song, and the song which would save Rihanna's album sales (since We Ride flopped), and the song which would set record sales for Sean Paul's new album. Since there's no music video, let's have a listen...

Quite good eh? Well, I'm thinking Rihanna had really no time to shoot a music video since she was busy partying on studio with Nicole Scherzinger. They recorded a song for a deodorant advertisement. The company is giving away MP3s of that song on their website. And you see, that song, Winning Women, has a video. It's not a master piece but it's an actual music video. And they are not even selling the song. So why would this one have a video and Break It Off don't? Yup, you guessed it.. I'm pissed off about it...

The Platinum Chart [Week 301]

Time for another countdown... But first let me just say that we reached the 10000 visitors! Yey! That's a great number! I still remember when I looked there and it said 28 visitors ... Been a long time now... So, just wanted to thank you for all that clicks... Now about the chart... Chris Cornell freefalls, The Pussycat Dolls and The Fray both enter the top 20, Kelis' star shines 6 positions up, Gwen Stefani escapes 8 positions above and Beyoncé listens 6 position on top too. Meanwhile Akon stopped loving the top spot and Mika puts Grace Kelly higher. On the Bubbling Under Chart, Cascada sticks to the top spot for an 8th week and the Scissor Sisters slip a bit...

My Chemical Romance - "I Don't Love You" [Video Premiere]

Fellow emo-rockers My Chemical Romance also have a new video. It's an emo-ballad and in the black and white video we can see the front man's newly died hair. It's black again. I'm to tired to think about this one, so, I'll let Wikipedia talk for me... "The music video is about two lovers in a strange abstract world, and the video seems to tell the story of how their love slowly withers away until one leaves the other alone. Towards the end of the video, the band's guitars and one of their amplifiers explode, possibly a metaphor for the state of the lovers' relationship. (...) The video is in a black and white format, most likely to show even more contrast between the two lovers. The music video also shows Gerard with his newly-dyed black hair [I just said that...], which he has sported since late December. (...) There has also been a big commotion about the ring Gerard is wearing." Fantastic...

Panic! At The Disco - "Build God, Then We'll Talk" [Video Premiere]

Panic! At The Disco have a brand new video. A very unusual one. You see, the band it's not featured in the video (OK, there's nothing unusual about that, people do it quite often...) Instead, the video is about...err... a... hum... As they say... pornomime. ... Yeah... Porno-mime... Basically the video is about this girl who goes to the pornomime show and falls for him. But that's nothing really... Panic! At The Disco offered us a porn movie... without any actors... but with a mime... I can't even remember the song actually... But you know... It's Panic! At The Disco... So... after I Write Sins Not Tragedy nothing really seem to matter... Anyway, check it for yourself...

Natasha Bedingfield - "I Wanna Have Your Babies" [Video Premiere]

Natasha Bedingfield's new video for her I Wanna Have Your Babies single has arrived through her Bebo account. The song is quite cool, Natasha talks about the trouble with women rushing out to find the perfect guy and the father to their babies. It's kinda reminiscent of These Words so, it can only be cool. The video has a bit of comedy, the first part remembers me of the gym scene on Pink's Stupid Girls video (in part because Natasha is also in a gym, and also because it's the same director). There's bubbles everywhere and every time Natasha imagines the guy being her babies' father. It's cool, it's fresh and it features a Girl Aloud. You can spot Nadine Coyle behind Natasha in the club scene (in the scene, curiously, Natasha looks like fellow Girl Aloud Sarah Harding...). So, let's see the woman talking and dreaming about the perfect man shall we?...

Upcoming Artist : Simon Curtis

Since this week has been low on new releases, I think now could be the time to talk to you about an upcoming artist.
I first knew about Simon Curtis in some blog (can't remember which one sorry) where I saw this really good pictures of him. Then I forgot about him for a while, only to rediscover him some days ago. Since then I've been an addict to his MySpace page. His tunes are gorgeous, fantastic, outrageous! It's the best thing I've heard since the first half of Justin's FutureSex/LoveSounds. Reviewing the 5 tracks I've listened of him already, Put Your Makeup On comes as the best, followed by Left Right Left and Bones. Answer is also a quite good track, and his theme song for the annual Disneyland Resort event Flashback is quite good as well. He is currently searching for a label to promote his album Alter Boy, so I guess we'll be hearing about him during this year. With his great sound and voice capabilities I say he's set to hit it big in 2007, not to mention he defeated leukemia... So have a taste below will ya?

Simon Curtis - Flashback
(Nevermind the video, but this was the only thing I found that provided a full song by Simon)

And a small preview of the Bones track I've found on Last.fm

Kaiser Chiefs - "Ruby"

I guess writing about your ex-girlfriend does pay-off. Maroon 5 done it about Jane, and scored two monstrous hits, This Love and She Will Be Loved. And wasn't that what James Blunt's You're Beautiful was about? Clearly if you write about your ex, you'll get yourself a number 1 hit at least on the UK. I guess Ruby is now delighted to see her name on the top of the charts. But more important than that, Ruby (as in, the song) is the greatest BritPop/Rock song I've ever listened. Maybe only beaten by Oasis' Wonderwall and Blur's Coffee & TV or Song 2, but it's a damn good song! It's a must have. And widely credited to be the song that brings BritPop back to the scene. Well... While we wait for BritPop to return, let's hear a bit about Ruby, Ruby, Ruby, Ruby...

Beyoncé Ft. Jay-Z - "Upgrade U" [Video Premiere]

Beyoncé's second premiere of the day has been release for everyone to see. Upgrade U is set to be a new single from her B'Day album. The track is already successful on the Billboard Hot 100, so it should have no problem in being a hit. The track is the first of 6 to have its video released. Album songs Get Me Bodied, Freakum Dress, Kitty Kat, Suga Mama and Green Light also have videos set to premiere, but on the exclusive DVD Deluxe Version of B'Day. Still Upgrade U makes up for it cuz it's a very good video. Apart for the good choreography, good sets, good wardrobe, good Beyoncé and good overall performance... Beyoncé manages to play a new character... Jay-Z! Yup, that's it! Beyoncé turns Jay-Z in this one and does some of his verses. The rapper finally appears by the end of the video, but still, Beyoncé does a hell of a show. So, if you think you're ready to watch Jay-Bee or Bey-Z, whatever you wanna call her, have a watch!

Beyoncé & Shakira - "Beautiful Liar" [Video Premiere]

Some months ago, the original studio version of this song featuring only Beyoncé on the vocals, leaked onto the Internet. It was a catchy R'n'B tune, with some Latin flavour. Then, hours ago the studio version of the song re-recorded with Shakira leaked. This new version was clearly marked by Shakira, as new middle-eastern sounds were added to the song. The song kinda resembles me of Shakira's Ojos Así, which is pretty cool. Hours ago, the video premiered on MTV's TRL (for the likes of many screaming fans), and it was the first time we could see both singers sharing the same screen. It didn't turned out a great video with some beach scenes and all (probably because Beyoncé's label is quite busy doing more 5 videos or so for her re-release, and that must turn out rather expensive), but still, is a good video, with some scenes on studio... But what really makes it look that cool, is the fact the singers look exactly the same. Which is great. And the choreography is also pretty good. I call it Baby Boy meets La Tortura. Feel free to enjoy...
